A number of miscellaneous materials were used in the stone age to make ‘decorative’ objects rather than for tools, such as amber used to make plaques and carvings, and various semi precious gem stones to make beads.

A number of these materials have been used in experiments such as drilling to reconstruct the manufacturing process of such beads.
