A core is any block of raw material that flakes or blades have been stuck from.
Though rarely used as tools they are included in typology as ‘typifying’ the industry represented
Flake cores can be of many shapes and are often referred to as globular.
Blade cores which can be conical, prismatic or cylindrical with blade removals that can be parallel or non-parallel.
Cores can be single or double or multi-platformed.
The ridges on a core indicate the technology in use.
parallel indicates blade technology
non- parallel indicated flake technology
and there are special cases like levallois technology where the ridges are convergent.
